Three sculptors of immersive electronic music, Tim Hecker, Mountains and David Daniell perform an evening of their adventurous compositions. Based in Montreal, Tim Hecker explores the intersection of dissonance and melody, fostering both a physical and emotive approach to songcraft. The New York Times has described his music as "foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole." Mountains seamlessly blend pastoral electronic sounds with field recordings and acoustic instruments to create soundscapes that are both broad in scope and rich in detail. The duo is often compared to artists such as Brian Eno and Fennesz, citing their extended melodies and unique guitar work. David Daniell, a central figure in Chicago's experimental music scene, combines an expansive palette of electronic tones with the back-porch howl of rural Americana. In addition to performing solo and playing in the long-running trio San Agustin, Daniell recently formed a duo with Tortoise bassist Doug McCombs and acts as the bandleader for both of composer Rhys Chatham's current ensembles.
